Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Evan Williams, the No. 214 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 245th pick.
Cole has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Jordan Morgan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in slot 58, where Edgerrin Cooper graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They did well to land Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Roger Rosengarten at No. 126 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Myles Cole at the 169th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Julian Pearl at par in pick No. 202, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tylan Grable at the 219th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Evan Williams at slot 245 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They barely believed it either: Michael Barrett still on the board at the 255th overall pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
