Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback and linebacker went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.1 · Pick 33 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper DeJean in No. 33. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 55
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at the 48th pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 61 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
Cade Stover in pick No. 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
A want over a need in the 95th overall pick: Khyree Jackson adds a cornerback while quarterback and linebacker keeps waiting.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 110
Leonard Taylor III at pick 102 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 120
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 126
A conviction pick on Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 18 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
By-the-book stuff, Christian Jones at the 133rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 148
They paid up for Justin Eboigbe at the 139th pick when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
R5.15 · Pick 151 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 151 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.1 · Pick 176 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
The board had Tykee Smith higher than the Round 6 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Daijun Edwards · RB · rank 186
They took Daijun Edwards at par in slot 183, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
