The Matt Lee pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 30 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Melton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a lockdown presence outside, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Jordan Morgan in pick No. 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 58, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value with a capital V on Max Melton in the 88th overall pick, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Braelon Allen in the 91st pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Beau Brade in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
They went early on Khristian Boyd in Round 5, Pick 33, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Nathaniel Watson in the 202nd pick; the board had better options right there. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Tylan Grable at pick No. 219 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Matt Lee at pick 245 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Taylor at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
