Nobody else had Fernando Carmona anywhere near Round 7, Pick 39. The Packers did, by 22 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rodriguez.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Christen Miller went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 20. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Jacob Rodriguez graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Julian Neal at par in the 120th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Charles Demmings slipping to the 160th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Sawyer Robertson at pick 201, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had cheaper options than Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 236, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Fernando Carmona, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
