Cleveland Browns

The Browns fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Browns spent pick No. 149 on Eric McAlister, a name most had 46 spots down the list.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Sarratt steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup weapon at tight end, even if it was a touch early.
R1.26 · Pick 26 · Caleb Lomu · OT · rank 28
In pick No. 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
A reach for Jake Slaughter in No. 39; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
They reached into another round for Ted Hurst, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Elijah Sarratt · WR · rank 77
Elijah Sarratt slipping to Round 3, Pick 27 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Bud Clark · S · rank 102
Bud Clark in the 107th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.6 · Pick 146 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 187
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jeff Caldwell in No. 146, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.9 · Pick 149 · Eric McAlister · WR · rank 195
A big swing on Eric McAlister at the 149th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 218
A reach on Thaddeus Dixon in pick No. 206; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Brett Norfleet · TE · rank 271
Brett Norfleet in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
