The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They banked enough surplus on Turner to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Emeka Egbuka higher than Round 2, Pick 4, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dallas Turner slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the edge rusher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sedrick Van Pran in the 68th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid a round early for Blake Fisher in No. 100, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Donovan Jackson in the 104th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cade Stover in pick 141. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 182 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Marques Cox went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
