If confidence were a draft strategy, the Packers would have aced it. Rayshaun Benny at the Round 4 slot is 35 spots clear of where he belonged. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Slaughter. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Christen Miller at No. 59 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at pick No. 83. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Davison Igbinosun in pick 86 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Julian Neal at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Charles Demmings this early at Round 4, Pick 19. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Rayshaun Benny in the 120th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 18, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah World at the 160th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jeff Caldwell at pick No. 200 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dallen Bentley at the 201st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fernando Carmona at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
