The Patriots went off the board in a big way for David Walker, 103 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Pierce steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kenneth Grant in Round 2, Pick 6, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for David Walker at pick 69, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dylan Sampson in No. 77. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Lathan Ransom at the 105th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Hollin Pierce at pick No. 145 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Elijhah Badger in the 219th pick, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached into another round for Shaun Dolac, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylin Smith at slot 240, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
