Nobody else had Mike Sainristil anywhere near No. 41. The Packers did, by 42 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Mustapha pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
If Kamren Kinchens and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. More want than need.
Mike Sainristil in the 41st overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Patrick Paul in pick No. 57. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Zak Zinter at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Khyree Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylen Wright at pick 125 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Malik Mustapha adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
No edge and no loss on Jawhar Jordan in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Steele Chambers at pick 217 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A slide stopped in the 219th pick, with Myles Jones worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for McKade Mettauer at the 246th overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
