There is reaching, and then there is Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot. The Chiefs jumped the board by 41 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out a thoroughly average C-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Coleman. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 4 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on T.J. Tampa in pick No. 40, and the value did not follow. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Adisa Isaac in slot 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in No. 53. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Keon Coleman at the 64th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Malik Mustapha, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor itch, scratched.
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in the 158th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 172 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
