The Chiefs lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Cole proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Eichenberg steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on T'Vondre Sweat in the 36th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ennis Rakestraw Jr.. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Kingsley Suamataia, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devontez Walker in pick No. 64 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Brenden Rice at slot 95 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Tommy Eichenberg come to them and pounced at the 158th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sione Vaki in No. 172 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Myles Cole at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
