The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
However the rest shakes out, Rattler at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. If Colson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Spending an early pick on safety with tight end and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Bottom line, with Nate Wiggins leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 8. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Patrick Paul in No. 51 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Cooper Beebe in pick No. 58, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Kris Jenkins at pick 71 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 83rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Rod Moore at the 85th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dominick Puni at the 88th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Braelon Allen in slot 90, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Junior Colson at No. 99, and the board did not agree. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Circle this one: Spencer Rattler at pick 119 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Roman Wilson, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Malik Mustapha in pick No. 135 leaves tight end and interior defensive lineman for later.
