The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chiefs shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Put together, it is a D+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Guerendo reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kris Jenkins in Round 2, Pick 8 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 43 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Devontez Walker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Isaac Guerendo in the 95th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Roger Rosengarten at the 133rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Malik Mustapha in No. 158 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke McCaffrey in the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Jaylan Ford in the 199th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
