The Chiefs lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The Reiman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
T.J. Tampa in No. 36 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
T'Vondre Sweat in the 40th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Kingsley Suamataia at pick No. 43 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Devontez Walker. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaac Guerendo a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Roger Rosengarten at Round 4, Pick 33 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Malik Mustapha in the 158th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylan Ford well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tip Reiman at pick No. 199 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
