It is a puzzling start. The Packers had edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to solve and reached instead for Cole Bishop, a safety, at the 125th pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Brooks to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Jonathon Brooks at Round 2, Pick 13 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in No. 57, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Tykee Smith in the 88th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jamari Thrash at slot 92 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
