Somebody in Round 7, Pick 25 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Jonah Monheim, the No. 209 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They will need Tagovailoa to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Jordan Morgan still on the board at the 56th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Payton Wilson slipping to slot 87 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Audric Estime was still sitting there in pick No. 124, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 174 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taulia Tagovailoa at Round 6, Pick 37 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 245 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
