Kansas City Chiefs

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chiefs to a C-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chiefs reached some 32 spots for Eric Watts, and value like that does not grow back. The final tally is a middling C-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 32
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
Edgerrin Cooper in the 42nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 55
Ruke Orhorhoro is a better player than the 64th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 92
Caelen Carson at slot 95 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 146
They paid a round early for Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 153
Malik Mustapha in No. 158 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Eric Watts · DL-EDGE · rank 204
Eric Watts at No. 172 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
