Call it larceny. Sataoa Laumea sat on the board until pick 219, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Bortolini reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Joe Alt in the Round 1 slot, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Cooper DeJean higher than pick 41, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 58 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaden Hicks at the 88th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a linebacker like Jeremiah Trotter Jr. reach pick No. 91 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tanor Bortolini this early at Round 4, Pick 26. A need, and now a little less of one.
Circle this one: Mason McCormick at the 169th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Davis at slot 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Sataoa Laumea still on the board at the Round 6 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Steele Chambers at Round 7, Pick 25 for years; that is how good the value is. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Somehow Sheridan Jones was still sitting there in the 255th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
