You can draft well and still miss the point. The Packers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Every board in the league had Bills lower, and that gap is the story. Getting Mustapha where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 25
In pick 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 43
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 46
Value with a capital V on Kris Jenkins in the 58th pick, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · DJ James · CB · rank 85
Fair-plus on DJ James, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 94
They took Trey Benson at par in Round 3, Pick 28, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 119
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 127, where Javon Foster graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 152
A slide stopped in the 168th overall pick, with Malik Mustapha worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 214
Josh Proctor at slot 204 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Keaton Bills · OG · rank 231
A conviction pick on Keaton Bills at No. 216 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · KT Leveston · OT · rank 236
Nothing to complain about; KT Leveston went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 244
LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 251 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
