For all the boxes ticked, the Chiefs skipped the loudest one: offensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was.
Klare falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If Hunter pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Rueben Bain Jr. at No. 5 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
In pick No. 32 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Lee Hunter at Round 2, Pick 8 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Max Klare in the 96th pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
