If confidence were a draft strategy, the Saints would have aced it. Dontay Corleone at the Round 2 slot is 25 spots clear of where he belonged. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

However the rest shakes out, Washington Jr. at that price is a win they earned. The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 34
Omar Cooper Jr. in the 30th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Zion Young · DE-EDGE · rank 42
Zion Young at pick No. 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Dontay Corleone · DT · rank 67
They talked themselves into Dontay Corleone at No. 42, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Mike Washington Jr. · RB · rank 73
Taking Mike Washington Jr. in pick 92 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Devin Moore · CB · rank 92
Good price on Devin Moore in Round 3, Pick 33, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
