The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 32 spots for Gracen Halton, and value like that does not grow back.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 30 they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Good price on Brandon Cisse in the 43rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Michael Taaffe in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Kobi Lane a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Carson Beck in slot 90 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Gracen Halton at No. 94 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
