Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Brandon Coleman at the 132nd overall pick is 44 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Corum pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keon Coleman in pick No. 41. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Patrick Paul at par in slot 63, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 88th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Blake Corum in pick 98. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cole Bishop in the 99th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tyler Davis in slot 125 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at pick No. 127, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Tommy Eichenberg at pick 129, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Brandon Coleman at No. 132 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sione Vaki in Round 5, Pick 23 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Dillon Johnson at the 168th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
