Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Eric Gentry at slot 227. The Dolphins jumped the board by 125 and dared it to prove them wrong. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

On value alone, Scott makes the weekend a net positive. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
A tidy bit of business in the Round 1 slot, where Jeremiyah Love graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
A quiet steal in No. 30: Sonny Styles for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Gabe Jacas · LB-EDGE · rank 52
The board had cheaper options than Gabe Jacas at slot 43, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 61
Keionte Scott at pick 75 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Devin Moore · CB · rank 93
A curious use of pick No. 87. Wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Devin Moore did not.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Treydan Stukes, a cornerback that was not the priority.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Max Llewellyn · DE-EDGE · rank 154
Max Llewellyn at pick No. 94 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 157
Drew Allar at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 188
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taylen Green. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 352
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eric Gentry in slot 227, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Enrique Cruz Jr. · OT · rank 291
Enrique Cruz Jr. at Round 7, Pick 22 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
