Somebody in the 174th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Billy Bowman Jr., the No. 116 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omarion Hampton slipping to pick No. 44 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Alfred Collins at the 76th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Kyle McCord in No. 149, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 170 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bhayshul Tuten at the 171st pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Billy Bowman Jr. in pick 174 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
