After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Giants committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Turner to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Caleb Williams at pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Dallas Turner in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jermaine Burton at pick No. 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Zak Zinter a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Jackson in slot 103 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Donovan Edwards at the 140th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ainias Smith slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 6 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
