The Cowboys torched the value chart for Kedon Slovis, taking him 61 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They banked enough surplus on Fashanu to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Hit on Olumuyiwa Fashanu and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in the 56th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Xavier Worthy at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Braelon Allen well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Curtis Jacobs at the 174th overall pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and slot 216 is lovely value for the linebacker. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Zion Logue at pick No. 233 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Kedon Slovis in Round 7, Pick 24, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
