The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Riley Leonard fell into slot 170.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malaki Starks in Round 2, Pick 13. A minor need, but a need all the same.
TreVeyon Henderson in slot 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jeffrey Bassa at the 149th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Riley Leonard at No. 170 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Cobee Bryant at pick No. 171 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Anthony Belton at the 174th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Connor Colby slipping to pick 188 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Simeon Barrow Jr. in the 211th overall pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; R.J. Mickens at pick 232 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Cody Lindenberg in slot 247 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
