The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Ro Torrence slide 63 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Allen pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Xavier Worthy at par in slot 63, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Braelon Allen at pick 87 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sataoa Laumea in the 108th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaiah Adams at No. 158 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fabien Lovett in pick No. 184 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Curtis Jacobs in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in the 215th pick, where Steele Chambers graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Erick All was still sitting there in the 232nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ro Torrence in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach Round 7, Pick 31 and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
