There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Kedon Slovis a full 61 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Powers-Johnson. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Khyree Jackson at slot 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylan Ford in the 174th pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Frank Gore Jr. in pick 216 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Zion Logue at the 233rd overall pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Kedon Slovis in the 244th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
