There is reaching, and then there is Jaylon Hutchings at the 244th overall pick. The Cowboys jumped the board by 110 and dared it to prove them wrong. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They banked enough surplus on McGlothern to cover a lot of smaller sins. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Taliese Fuaga at the Round 1 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Keon Coleman slipping to the 56th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Xavier Worthy in slot 87 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 216 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kedon Slovis in pick 233 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaylon Hutchings. A need, and now a little less of one.
