Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent the Round 7 slot on Zion Logue, a name most had 53 spots down the list.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Devontez Walker in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Braelon Allen in pick No. 87 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They liked Frank Gore Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the 216th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Zion Logue at Round 7, Pick 13, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Darius Muasau at slot 244 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
