You could see the war room lean forward. Jalen McMillan at No. 174 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They will need Slovis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 59 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 87 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Beaux Limmer at the 111th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Jalen McMillan was still sitting there in pick 174, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Frank Gore Jr. in the 216th pick; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Kedon Slovis in Round 7, Pick 13 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zion Logue at the 244th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
