Nobody else had Kedon Slovis anywhere near the 244th pick. The Cowboys did, by 61 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
However the rest shakes out, Guyton at that price is a win they earned. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Guyton at No. 56 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 87 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 32 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Tanor Bortolini in slot 174, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Miyan Williams at the 216th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Zion Logue at the 233rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kedon Slovis. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
