The Cowboys torched the value chart for Jaylan Ford, taking him 23 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 56th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 87 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in slot 173 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on Frank Gore Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trevin Wallace in Round 7, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Carter Bradley at Round 7, Pick 22 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
