Nobody had Eric Gentry this high, and it is not close. The Dolphins reached 125 spots to get him at the 227th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The Stowers value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Spending an early pick on cornerback with edge rusher and interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a cornerstone up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Emmanuel Pregnon at the 38th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick 40, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
You do not let a tight end like Eli Stowers reach Round 3, Pick 10 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Keionte Scott higher than slot 75, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Jacob Rodriguez in Round 3, Pick 23 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Mike Washington Jr. is a better player than slot 90 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Ted Hurst in No. 94, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A want over a need in pick 108: Devin Moore adds a cornerback while edge rusher and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Michael Trigg in the 111th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Demond Claiborne this early at the Round 4 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Drew Allar in pick No. 151; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Taylen Green in the 170th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeff Caldwell in pick No. 210 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Adam Randall in slot 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Joshua Braun at Round 7, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
