The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Kedon Slovis went at the 244th pick, a good 61 picks before the board was ready.
Landing Worthy that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Brian Thomas Jr. and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Worthy at the 71st overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braelon Allen in the 87th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at pick 174. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylan Ford at slot 216 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Logue well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kedon Slovis at Round 7, Pick 24 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
