This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: James Williams, the No. 125 name on the board, stolen at the 169th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Casey proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Graham Barton in the 25th pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Javon Bullard at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tidy bit of business in slot 58, where Jonathon Brooks graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Malik Washington at par in the 89th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Cedric Gray at pick 91, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had cheaper options than Jarrian Jones at Round 4, Pick 26, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for James Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A reach for Logan Lee in No. 202; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Johnny Dixon in Round 6, Pick 44 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Garret Greenfield at pick 220 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in the 245th overall pick: Tylan Grable for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Aaron Casey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
