Nobody else had Kedon Slovis anywhere near Round 7, Pick 13. The Cowboys did, by 72 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick No. 71 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabriel Murphy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Khyree Jackson in slot 96 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dillon Johnson a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylan Ford in slot 174, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Zion Logue, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kedon Slovis at pick No. 233 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
