The Zion Logue selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 70 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Landing Worthy that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy little value on Tyler Guyton in slot 34, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Payton Wilson in the 60th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Xavier Worthy in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Cam Hart in the 90th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at No. 103 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Jalyx Hunt at No. 128, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Joe Milton III at pick 138 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Jaylan Ford in slot 174, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zion Logue in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
