The Adam Randall pick is the one that will follow the Texans into the fall. They took him 33 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Christen Miller at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jake Slaughter in Round 2, Pick 27. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Jacob Rodriguez went about where he belonged in pick No. 69. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Trigg at pick 106, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Zane Durant at No. 167 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Adam Randall at pick No. 243 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
