The war room fell hard for Eric O'Neill, and it showed at No. 206: 51 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The Klare pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, CJ Allen at the 39th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Jake Slaughter was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 6. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Max Klare still on the board at pick No. 107. The roster fit checks out.
Malik Muhammad in pick 112 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Isaiah World in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land Kaytron Allen in the 149th pick, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Eric O'Neill at pick 206 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaiah Jatta in slot 218 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good price on Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 248, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
