The Buccaneers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 229th overall pick on Logan Taylor a full 29 spots early.
The Roush value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Rodriguez pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with cornerback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 15 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
A want over a need in No. 46: Jacob Rodriguez adds a linebacker while cornerback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
Good price on Chase Bisontis in pick No. 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sam Roush in pick 116 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Chris McClellan slipping to the 155th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tyren Montgomery at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Logan Taylor at the 229th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
