Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick No. 244 on Trajan Jeffcoat, a name most had 64 spots down the list.
McKinstry at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kool-Aid McKinstry in Round 2, Pick 24, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trey Benson in slot 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Marist Liufau in pick 174, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ryan Flournoy at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Caedan Wallace in the 233rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trajan Jeffcoat in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
