Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Browns spent pick No. 206 on Logan Fano, a name the board had a full 52 spots lower.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Slaughter to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The Tyler Guyton deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In the end it comes back to Carnell Tate, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Chris Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jake Slaughter at the 70th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Harold Perkins Jr. in Round 4, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Kaytron Allen at slot 146, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Marlin Klein in Round 5, Pick 9; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Drew Allar at pick No. 165. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Logan Fano in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Josh Moten at pick 248 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
