Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Eagles, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Watts proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
However the rest shakes out, Rouse at that price is a win they earned.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Malachi Corley a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Payton Wilson at par in pick 57, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Braelon Allen at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Tykee Smith went about where he belonged in slot 161. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 35, where Walter Rouse graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than Tip Reiman at the 172nd overall pick, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Eric Watts in No. 210 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
