Dallas Cowboys

The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D+.

The Cowboys did not so much draft Zion Logue as overpay for him, 70 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Nix makes the weekend a net positive.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 16
In pick No. 14 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
In slot 27 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
Adonai Mitchell at No. 45 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 30
Bo Nix in the 56th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson in pick 71 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khyree Jackson this early at the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 92
They took Gabriel Murphy at par in pick 87, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 126
A big swing on Beaux Limmer at Round 4, Pick 3, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
A wild overpay on Tommy Eichenberg in the 121st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 167
Dillon Johnson at slot 160 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 205
A real head-scratcher, Jaylan Ford in pick No. 174 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 286
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Logue well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
