If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Browns, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.
They will need Bernard to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Slaughter at that price is a win they earned.
Adding Jaylon Johnson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a centerfielder for the defense. A real need, handled.
In No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Germie Bernard in Round 2, Pick 7 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Slaughter at the 70th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Sam Roush higher than pick No. 107, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in the 146th pick with a little surplus value in CJ Daniels. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Rayshaun Benny at slot 149 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Value said wait; Noah Whittington in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jack Kelly at the 248th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
