Dallas Cowboys

A masterclass at the trade table lands the Cowboys a B+.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cowboys were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The Wheatley pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, running back and other spots. If Perkins Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Banks makes the weekend a net positive.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
In pick 18 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
In pick No. 27 they get a green-dot type in the middle, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Caleb Banks · DL · rank 41
Caleb Banks slid further than he should have, and slot 49 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Emmanuel McNeil-Warren · S · rank 51
A reasonable price with a little left over, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the Round 2 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Zakee Wheatley · S · rank 86
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Zakee Wheatley adds a safety and leaves quarterback, running back and other spots untouched.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Harold Perkins Jr. · LB · rank 132
A real head-scratcher, Harold Perkins Jr. in the 112th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 145
Isaiah World at Round 5, Pick 12 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Eric McAlister · WR · rank 195
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eric McAlister. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 176
A clean, defensible pick in the 180th pick with a little surplus value in Kaleb Elarms-Orr. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 188
Nice patience on Ephesians Prysock, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 15. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 222
Zavion Thomas in the 218th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
