The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Marvin Jones Jr., taking him 79 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wheatley. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
In the 12th pick they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
R1.20 · Pick 20 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
By-the-book stuff, Jermod McCoy at the 20th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 47
They read the board right and D'Angelo Ponds was the payoff at pick 63. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Eli Stowers · TE · rank 53
The board fumbled Eli Stowers all the way to Round 3, Pick 9, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Deion Burks · WR · rank 85
They robbed the room for Deion Burks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Zakee Wheatley · S · rank 86
They barely believed it either: Zakee Wheatley still on the board at slot 116. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 99
Malik Muhammad in slot 125 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · J.C. Davis · OT · rank 138
They paid sticker price for J.C. Davis in Round 4, Pick 32, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.10 · Pick 150 · Skyler Gill-Howard · DT · rank 150
Skyler Gill-Howard in pick No. 150 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Trey Moore · LB-EDGE · rank 178
A real head-scratcher, Trey Moore in No. 152 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Patrick Payton · DL-EDGE · rank 247
Value said wait; Patrick Payton in the 177th overall pick says they were not listening. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.24 · Pick 205 · Justin Jefferson · LB · rank 201
They did well to land Justin Jefferson in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Tyler Onyedim · DE-EDGE · rank 272
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Onyedim. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.5 · Pick 221 · Nick Barrett · DL · rank 254
A wild overpay on Nick Barrett in pick 221, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.6 · Pick 222 · Noah Whittington · RB · rank 224
A straight-up fair deal on Noah Whittington at No. 222, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 261
They talked themselves into Logan Taylor at Round 7, Pick 27, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Marvin Jones Jr. · LB-EDGE · rank 336
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marvin Jones Jr. this early at the 257th pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
